Our Stadium Turf is grown with combination of 5 different grass seed:
20% Ryegrass
Ryegrass is one of the most popular seeds available for lawn and pasture purposes. Ryegrass is planted worldwide on its own and in various grass seed mixtures. This cool season grass adapts too many soil types and climates, coupled with its fast germination and growing ability rates this makes Ryegrass an important grass type for establishing lawns and pastures in all but the hottest of climates.
Ryegrass lawns are one of the best lower maintenance lawns of the cool season grasses. This is one of the toughest and most traffic tolerant turfs available. It also benefits from fast germination, a shiny green colour and fine texture combined with being high disease and insect resistant making this one of the leading choices for permanent turf or lawn grasses.
25% Strong Creeping Red Fescue & 20% Slender Creeping Red Fescue
Creeping Red Fescue grass seed is widely planted for turf grass in cool season areas. Creeping Red fescue is a fine bladed grass which is a medium to dark green colour, it is easily established from seed and spreads with a ‘creeping’ growth habit.
Its major use is for dry shaded areas either on its own or mixed with other grass seeds such as the Ryegrass seed. Although it’s mainly used for shaded areas this grass will tolerate full sun conditions but will require more water.
Creeping Red Fescue grows best in well drained areas with droughty, infertile soils. It does not grow well in wet soils or high fertilisation rates, including highly fertile soils.
Strong Creeping Red Fescue contains 56 chromosomes compared to 42 in the Slender Creeping Red Fescue. These varieties in Creeping red Fescue both spread underground creeping stems and above ground creeping stems which allow them to spread and repair turf areas.
Creeping Red Fescue will survive in areas of heavy shade and 2-4 hours of daily sun. It has a low –to moderate traffic tolerance.
20% Chewing’s Fescue
Chewings Fescue grass has a more upright growth than a Creeping Fescue grass and retains the fine texture of the fine textured group of grasses. Chewing’s Fescue is a bunch type growing fescue that forms a dense tight knit turf.
This grass type is used frequently for residential lawn turf mixtures as one of its main desirable traits is that it can be mown to a low height of 1.5” and is a low maintenance grass type.
15% Smooth Stalk Meadow Grass
Smooth Stalked Meadow grass (Poa Pratensis) is used in various seed mixtures due to its very high wear tolerance and low maintenance traits. It also has very high tolerance to drought and cold weather conditions.
This hardwearing, dense, low maintenance grass type is ideal for residential lawns and is an easy to cut grass which leaves a nice clean cut after mowing due to the strong grass blades growing upright.
